Ganesh Chathurthi also known as Vinayaka Chathurthi / Chavathi is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Ganesha. It falls on the Chathurthi of the Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month and will be observed on 13th September 2018. The Ganeshotsava celebrations normally commence on the Chathurthi and go on for ten days till Ananth Chaturdashi. Most families bring home Ganesha and perform the Prathishtapan on the Chathurthi day. The Lord is worshipped with flowers, darbha / durva grass, vadya (religious music) and naivedya consisting of modaks and karanji for 1½ days, 3 days, 5 days, 7 days or 11 days depending on the devotees. The last day of the festivity is Ananth Chatudashi / Nopi, when the idol is immersed in the sea, river or lake.
